Members of the shed have volunteered their time to help various charities such as the Ulster Wildlife Fund, NI Hospice, Oxfam and PIPS—a local charity that aims to raise funds and awareness around suicide. Here they have been involved in various projects such as manufacturing squirrel feeders to be placed in Glenarm forest as part of a red squirrel conversation drive as well as the construction of commemorative wooden floats for families that have lost love ones to suicide. Some shed members have also volunteered their time to replace batteries into watches for NI Hospice and spend time with Oxfam sorting out donated charity items in their warehouse ready for sale in their retail charity shops. These voluntary activities have been shown to have a positive impact on shed members, especially in terms of their own wellbeing and sense of self worth.
